Review ALLNET Powerline POE adapters
20/03/12 21:23

Would you like to install an IP Camera in a spot that is out of Wi-Fi range or has no available UTP connection? Or would you like to extend the range of your Wi-Fi to your garden or veranda? Both of these are possible and, in fact, quite simple to do by routing the Ethernet signal through your electrical network. In this article, I’ll explain how this can be set up while, at the same time, reviewing the ALLNET Powerline adapter.

27/02/12 15:28

In one of my previous articles I mentioned that I received three Foscam FI8905W Outdoor IP Cameras to be reviewed. Using the Foscam FI8905W cameras, I took pictures from the same spot in a garden. In this article, you can compare the various pictures and see the difference between the images generated by 6, 8 and 12mm lenses.

Test of Dericam M801W IP Camera with IR-Cut and PTZ
25/01/12 19:53

A comparison between Foscam interior IP Cameras is exactly what the doctor ordered! In several articles on my website, you can read about my positive experiences with indoor Foscam IP cameras. I’ve also tested an Eyesight Outdoor IP Camera, and I intend to be as objective and honest about these cameras as possible. The more IP Cameras I test, the more objective I can be. This is why I didn’t order a Foscam this time, but a Dericam model M801W. I received two models – an older one and a new model with the IR-Cut feature. In this article, I describe my tests and their results.

What is port forwarding? Connect to IP Cameras remotely
09/12/11 16:00

Why am I able to control my IP camera when I’m home, but not from work? When at home, I’m able to check the footage from my IP camera on my iPhone, but not when I’m out. Why is this? I helped out a number of people who all asked the same question. Now that IP Cameras have become cheaper, I get asked these questions more often. The answer involves Port Forwarding. You can read my explanation in this article.

IP-Cameras with IR-Cut for brilliant colors
27/11/11 16:56

The cameras that I’ve tested so far, including the ES-IP615PW and the Foscam FI8908W, aren’t provided with IR-Cut. Their footage is sufficient for my purposes. However, cameras with IR-Cut are available within the same price category. But what exactly is IR-Cut?

A closer look to the image quality of ES-IP615W IP Camera
27/11/11 15:50

I’ve finally found the time to mount my new (ES-IP615PW) mini Outdoor IP Camera. According to its specifications, this is a good ‘long-distance’ camera. The ES-IP615PW features night vision of up to 15 metres and is provided with powerful infrared LEDs. However, I chose to mount this camera at my front door because it’s compatible with my Arduino Home Domotica system. When someone rings the doorbell, I receive an iPhone push notification and an email containing camera images. Now that I’ve mounted the camera, I can tell you more about its image quality.

My first PoE Injector arrived today. PoE means Power over Ethernet, and this sends power as well as data across a UTP cable. If you have a device that supports PoE, all you need to do is connect a UTP cable to the device to equip it with power and connect it to a data network. A regular UTP cable is all you’ll require, although you’ll also need a device that can supply power to the UTP cable. This can be either a PoE Switch or a PoE Injector, such as the one I’m testing.

As you have read in my previous article about the Foscam FI8908 IP Camera, I’m very pleased with it. Its images might not be HD quality, but it’s a great camera with which to view what’s going on in a certain area and it represents great value for money. In this article I’ll describe how I connected a second Foscam IP Camera so that images from both cameras could be viewed at the same time in a mosaic window.
