Which type of lens do I need in my specific situation?

Each camera has a viewing angle, which is the horizontal field of view from the camera. The rule that applies is the smaller the lens in millimeters, the greater the viewing angle which is similar as to photo camera lenses. If the angle is small (eg 22 ° = 12mm lens), the camera will show a smaller area and the objects of that area will be larger and more detailed displayed. In contrast, if we choose a model with a large angle (eg 67 ° = 3.6mm lens), we cover a larger viewing area, but of course there will be less details in the picture.
